Markets enter Friday's London session carrying the weight of a 10-year Treasury yield at 5.20%, the highest in nearly two decades, and a Federal Reserve now widely priced at a 70% probability of a second hike in October. The dollar is firm, gold has broken below $4,285, silver is below $64, and the bond market is doing the tightening work so the Fed doesn't have to. That is the structural backdrop.

Two live variables complicate the picture. US and Iranian negotiators are actively exploring a phased deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with Qatari officials mediating and both sides facing domestic pressure to resolve the nearly seven-month conflict. Any formal advancement of that deal today hits WTI, USD/CAD, and gold simultaneously. The other variable is USD/JPY, which has climbed to near 159.00 as the CFTC's 100th-percentile yen long unwinds against a carry trade that the Bank of Japan's cautious September 18 hike failed to interrupt. Ministry of Finance intervention risk is elevated at these levels. China's mainland markets are closed today for the Mid-Autumn Festival, removing Shanghai price discovery from metals and energy during Asian hours.

Today's directional biases favour USD/CHF continuation above 0.8240 as the week's cleanest structural trade, EUR/USD weakness below 1.1400 toward 1.1320, and WTI as a reactive rather than anticipatory trade given the Hormuz headline risk. Gold and silver remain bearish while yields hold above 5.10%, but Friday sizing discipline applies. The full briefing gives subscribers precise entry conditions, stop levels, and the cross-asset early warning signals to watch when the narrative shifts.
