Trading Diary & Market Update ~ Tuesday 1st July 2014

07:50am  ~  Up early this morning as we are off to Wimbledon at lunchtime to see Nadal play but before then I shall be here in the study watching some charts and doing emails.  Just seen that my “Trade With A Day Job” position last night ended with a +34 pip profit, giving me a total of 145 pips for the day after 3 trades, all winners.

The Dow Jones and S&P500 are still working their way very slowly towards the highs of the year, but along with most other indices they both ended slightly down by the end of the day. The S&P closed at 1960 and the DJ30 finished down 25 points at 16826 and apart from the German Dax 30 all the other main indices in Europe ended in the red. There’s a large amount of data coming out in the next few days so the markets should establish a direction before the end of the week and technically the Dow Jones 30 is still climbing up a bullish trend line so keep an eye on trade opportunities in that direction – although the S&P has not got far to go until it hits the yearly high again so all in all plenty of trading interest.

Even though there’s weakness in the US dollar again which normally helps keep Oil prices up, the U.S. WTI Crude value dropped 17 cents to $105.52 a barrel during yesterday’s trading session and with Iraqi reports of increased crude output for August showing that production does not seem to be affected by local violence means a lid should be kept on any price increases in the near future. Gold enjoyed a shift from equity investment yesterday after volumes dropped and traders shifted their focus, meaning the yellow metal ended up $11 at $1328 where there’s a local resistance, so we may see some profit taking in the next few days – watch out for some chart opportunities

09:05am  ~  Not much happening on my charts, so I am off on a cycle ride.

11:55am   ~   Nothing to report regarding any trading, I have been watching a few charts for the last hour and no real opportunities –  off now for the rest of the day.
