my trading day ~ wednesday 13th january ’10
Bit of an earlier start today, although it was nice having a lie-in yesterday. After a quick breakfast, I was in front of my screens in the office at home just after 8am.
While waiting for my first trade to signal, I noticed that the markets seemed a lot more subdued than normal, so I did not have great expectations for the day’s profits. In the event, during the day, even though I was watching my ‘normal’ currency pairs and indexes – there were no signals at all on the S&P500 index together with EUR/USD and USD/CAD currency pairs.
Anyway – my first trade came along (on my “Any-Time” system) with a signal at 8:30 (EUR/YEN) and it gave me an opening profit of +31 pips. Further to my note the other day about ‘Daily Targets’ this opening trade profit would have been plenty enough for most traders, and in previous years I have done very well with just 15 or 20 pips per day. That was my daily target, so most days I was either finished by mid morning, or I would have the day off and just trade my evening system.
Do the mathematics yourself, and see how quickly you can compound 15 pips per day if you start at only £5 per pip. The nice thing about compounding (ie: not spending the money you have earned, you just re-invest it) is that you can very quickly end up trading at £20 per pip – often within a few months.
Anyway – my 2nd trade did come along until just after midday (FTSE +7 pips) and because the market was not giving me many signals I decided to call it a day after my 4th (and last) trade just before 3pm. All in all I had 4 trades with a total of +71 pips. As I mentioned before, I was also watching the S&P500 and the EUR/USD & USD/CAD currency pairs but I had no signals from them at all.
Another invigorating cycle ride followed my working short day at my desk, and I was back just after 5pm to trade my “Evening” system. I had two trades to reach my +20 pip target, so the day finished with a happy Nick and +91 pips.
Thursday is a no trading day for me as I have a ‘chaps’ day out planned, so I will be back in front of the computer screens on Friday morning.
